• 5.0 out of 5 stars from Derek Stephen McPhail -- A well named epic memoir: "Permanent Astonishment" by "Tomson Highway" : Always a treat to read this wonderful Canajun author, with his hilarious characters and vivid descriptions of "growing up in the Land of Snow and Sky" in northern Canada. This latest work is a true masterpiece. A great reminder that the deluded colonial efforts to crush Indigenous spirit has failed miserably. ( Reviewed in Canada on October 23, 2021 )
• 5.0 out of 5 stars from Linda Seaver -- A hilarious yet poignant memoir of Cree life in sub-Arctic Canada and in a Residential School : Tomson Highway is both very, very funny and also gentle, loving, and kind. He gives us a good look at life in sub-Arctic Canada during the 50's and 60's as well as a detailed picture of life in a Residential School. He includes many positives about the school and deals sympathetically with the bad parts. He says a lot by what he leaves out.
